Ken Capps - May 2021
I was born into a mixed farming family at Cowra, Central NSW. After leaving school at 16 the farm wasn't big enough to support us all, so I set up a small transport business which continued on until retirement 56 years later. I held one of the first B-Double driver's licence in NSW. My first on air experience was on 2LF Young when I was about 13. Little did I know what it would lead to.
On retiring we moved to Coffs Harbour in 2016.
I met a bloke named Burnsie. His first question was, what are you going to do with your time ? I dunno. Well, come on air at 2AIRFM. No, I don't want to go on air. How about work in the Office ? I suppose I could answer the phones. The next week I was sitting at the desk at 2AIR at the Jetty Village Studios. The first day I was asked again, when are you going on air ? Answer: I'm Not. One year later I was playing my loved country music on air.
During my time at 2AIRFM I have also worked with the late Joe Mace on Sponsorship sales & fund raising. I have served on the Committee Of Management for a number of years. I have only retired from The COM & Sponsorship sales last year. The old man is catching up.
I have really enjoyed my time at 2AIR, made some lasting friendships and hope to continue for some time yet.
