Len Gear - February, 2022
Born in Bundaberg in 1939.
Went to Papua New Guinea in January 1962 for a new adventure, working as a sales person in Port Moresby. Flew back to Bundaberg April, to marry the love of my life.
Worked in Madang, Mt Hagan, Goroka and Lae where I became interested in radio broadcasting, doing the sports news on local radio.
Heavily involved in sports ie. Cricket, hockey and tennis. I was presented with life membership of the Lae Cricket and Association by West Indian captain Clive Lloyd during their tour of Papua New Guinea Pre Independence. Captained the first international Papua New Guinea cricket team, playing Gamar during independence celebrations, which we won.
Returned to Australia January 1981 and settled in Coffs Harbour. I continued to play cricket until the 1990's. I took up umpiring until I retired in 2019.
I retired from work in 2002 and decided to become a country music Presenter and, as they say, the rest is history. I spent four years on the Committee of Management. During this time, I was the Fund-Raising Co-Ordinator.
